SINGAPORE PROJECT

ACRE WORKS J107 Edge Protection Project in Singapore

A modular clamp-based temporary edge protection solution for elevated precast viaduct works on Singapore's Jurong Region Line.

APAC supplied the Safedge system for the design and construction of Gek Poh Station, Tawas Station and associated viaduct works, helping the contractor protect exposed precast concrete edges as construction progressed. The supplied configuration combined Multi Slab Clamps, 1.2 m Safety Posts and two lengths of Mesh Barrier to provide a flexible system for changing edge conditions along the structure.

PROJECT CHALLENGE

Temporary Edge Protection for Elevated Precast Viaduct Works

The project required temporary edge protection that could follow the construction sequence without introducing an unnecessarily complicated permanent fixing arrangement along the precast viaduct edges.

A System That Could Move With the Project

As construction progressed along the viaduct, the protected edge was not static. The contractor needed a system that could be installed, removed and relocated to support changing work areas. Different sections of the structure also required different protection lengths, so relying on one barrier size alone would reduce flexibility around long runs, shorter end sections and changing site conditions.
  • Suitable for elevated precast concrete edges
  • Avoid complicated permanent fixing where possible
  • Allow efficient relocation as construction progressed
  • Adapt to different edge lengths and site conditions
  • Maintain a modular system configuration across the project
APAC SOLUTION

A Modular Safedge Clamp-Based Configuration

APAC supplied a Safedge edge protection configuration combining Multi Slab Clamps, 1.2 m Safety Posts and 2.6 m / 1.3 m Mesh Barriers.

Clamp Directly to the Precast Concrete Edge

The Multi Slab Clamp provided the fixing interface between the temporary edge protection system and the precast concrete structure. This clamp-based configuration allowed the system to be installed directly along suitable concrete edges without relying on a complicated permanent fixing arrangement. The Safety Posts and Mesh Barriers then formed the protective edge, creating a modular configuration that could be dismantled and relocated as the working area moved.
FIXING

Multi Slab Clamp

Provides the temporary fixing interface to suitable precast concrete edges and supports relocation as work progresses.
SUPPORT

1.2 m Safety Post

Forms the vertical support between the slab clamp and mesh barrier as part of the complete Safedge configuration.
BARRIER

2.6 m & 1.3 m Mesh Barriers

Two barrier lengths provide greater flexibility when protecting long straight runs, shorter sections and changing edge conditions.
SYSTEM FLEXIBILITY

Two Barrier Lengths for Changing Viaduct Edge Conditions

Using both 2.6 m and 1.3 m Mesh Barriers gave the project team more flexibility than relying on a single standard barrier length throughout the structure.
LONG RUNS

2.6 m Mesh Barriers

Longer barriers can efficiently cover extended sections of relatively continuous precast edge.
SHORT SECTIONS

1.3 m Mesh Barriers

Shorter barriers provide additional flexibility around end sections, transitions and areas where the available edge length changes.
MODULAR SYSTEM

Adapt as Construction Progresses

The two barrier lengths could be used within the same modular system, helping the contractor adapt the protection layout as site conditions changed.
PROJECT SCALE

Safedge System Supplied for Nearly 2 km of Edge Protection

The project required more than individual edge protection components. The supplied quantities were planned as a complete modular system using compatible clamps, posts and mesh barriers.
The main quantities supplied for the project were:
Component Specification Quantity Function
Multi Slab Clamp Safedge clamp-based fixing 1,010 Temporary fixing interface to suitable concrete edges
Safety Post 1.2 m 1,010 Vertical support for the mesh barrier system
Mesh Barrier 2.6 m / 1.3 m 930 Collective temporary edge protection barrier
Total Protected Length Project supply Nearly 2 km Approximate total linear edge protection supplied

System Quantities Should Be Planned Together

A project bill of materials should consider the relationship between fixing points, posts, barrier lengths, corners, end sections and the construction sequence rather than calculating each component independently.

The project images show how the clamp-based edge protection configuration was used along the precast concrete structure during construction.

A Repositionable System for Repetitive Viaduct Work

Viaduct construction can involve repetitive work zones progressing along a long structure. A modular temporary system allows the edge protection components to follow that construction sequence rather than remaining permanently fixed in one location. For similar projects, the correct clamp, post spacing, barrier configuration and quantity should still be reviewed against the actual structure and site requirements before supply.
  • Precast concrete edge condition
  • Available clamp fixing position
  • Required protected edge length
  • Construction sequence and relocation plan
  • Barrier length combination
PROJECT TAKEAWAYS

What This Project Demonstrates

The J107 project provides a practical reference for buyers evaluating temporary edge protection for elevated concrete and infrastructure applications.

Temporary Clamp-Based Fixing

A clamp-based approach can provide a practical fixing method where the concrete edge and project conditions are suitable.

Flexible Barrier Configuration

Combining different barrier lengths can help the protection layout respond to long runs, shorter sections and changing structure geometry.

Modular Repeat Use

Repositionable components can support construction sequences where the protected work zone moves progressively along the structure.

Previous Projects Are a Reference, Not a Universal Specification

The J107 configuration should not automatically be copied to another project. Structural dimensions, fixing conditions, required protection length and applicable technical requirements should be reviewed before selecting a system.
