Affin Bank Edge Protection Project in Malaysia
APAC supplied a modular temporary edge protection solution for the construction of Affin Bank's new headquarters at Tun Razak Exchange (TRX) in Kuala Lumpur. Instead of replacing the contractor's existing lightweight mesh panels, the system was redesigned around them using Socket Bases, 1.2 m Safety Posts and Adjustable Link Bars.

Improve Edge Protection Performance Without Replacing Existing Equipment
The contractor already had lightweight mesh panels on site, but the panels did not provide sufficient structural performance on their own for the required edge protection system.Three Practical Site Constraints
- The existing lightweight mesh panels could not provide the required structural performance on their own.
- A tight construction programme and confined working areas required fast installation with minimal dependence on crane lifting.
- The contractor wanted a flexible system that could be reused across both slab edges and stair areas.
APAC SOLUTION
Build the Structural Guardrail Around the Existing Mesh Panels
Rather than replacing the contractor's existing panels, APAC developed a modular system using Socket Bases, 1.2 m Safety Posts and Adjustable Link Bars.
Separate the Guardrail and Infill Functions
The Adjustable Link Bars provided the primary guardrail function, supported by the Safety Posts and Socket Bases. The contractor's existing lightweight mesh panels were retained as infill protection rather than being relied upon as the main structural guardrail. This allowed the complete configuration to achieve the required EN 13374 safety performance while continuing to make practical use of equipment already available on site.

Existing Mesh Panels Were Reused — But Their Function Changed
The system did not rely on the lightweight mesh panels alone for structural edge protection. The APAC components provided the primary guardrail structure, while the existing panels continued to serve as infill protection.

The same modular components could be redeployed between different areas of the project as construction progressed.

The same Safety Posts and Adjustable Link Bars could also be redeployed for stair-edge protection, reducing the need for additional dedicated equipment.
The Value Was in the System Configuration
By combining new structural guardrail components with reusable existing mesh panels, the contractor gained a more flexible solution for different work areas without unnecessarily replacing all existing equipment.
